The Scotch College Junior School Landscape Works project involved the demolition of existing buildings and surrounding courtyards to create new landscaped areas, playgrounds, and basketball courts. The site, situated centrally within an operational school, presented challenges due to its sloping terrain and limited access. Effective planning and scheduling were critical to ensure minimal disruption to the school’s daily operations while maintaining project efficiency.

The Project Included:

  • Liaising with all key stakeholders to reduce the project’s impact on the daily operations of the school and community.
  •  Clearing and earthworks in a restricted area.
  • Demolition of buildings and structures.
  • Asbestos Removal.
  • Installation of hydraulic infrastructure including water mains, gas mains, fire water mains, stormwater drainage and water play elements.
  • Installation of drainage including subsoil drainage cells, ACO strip drains and manholes.
  • Bulk earthworks and final trimming to design levels.
  • Construction of in-situ concrete, brick, limestone block and panel and post retaining walls.
  • Installation of playground equipment.
  • Installation of mature trees up to 5 tonne.
  • Hardscape landscaping including installation of granite moss rocks and donnybrook sandstone.
  • Feature stone carving including paw prints and water features.
  • Installation of irrigation systems for mature trees and surrounding garden beds.
  • Soil preparation for plantings.
  • Decorative concrete and recycled brick paving paths including features such as a compass, paw prints and labyrinth.
  • Installation of rubber, pine bark mulch and sand softfall areas.
  • Feature concrete construction including climbing wall, paw prints, compass, Scottish terrier, bones and labyrinth.
  • Installation of climbing grips for climbing wall.
  • Construction of concrete culvert and climbing frame parkour area.
  • Planting 140mm pots watering and fertilizing.
  • Mulching of landscaped areas.
  • Installation of pool fencing and ballistrades.
  • Installation of pathway lighting and light poles.
  • Installation of new park furniture, including but not limited to, coffee tables, table tennis tables, timber decking and water features.
  • Reconstruction of heritage buildings.
  • Carpark construction including subgrade preparation, basecourse construction, seal, red asphalt and line marking.


    This ambitious project was delivered successfully, overcoming logistical challenges such as restricted access and operating within an active school environment. Through meticulous planning and collaboration, the team ensured minimal disruption to school operations while achieving an environmentally sustainable and aesthetically pleasing outcome. The high standard of workmanship and innovative solutions exceeded client expectations, setting a benchmark for future projects.
