Advanteering was engaged to deliver a major bridge and road realignment project involving the construction of a new dual-lane concrete bridge adjacent to an existing single-lane timber structure. The works also included the realignment of the road corridor and conversion of the old bridge into a dedicated pedestrian path. The project presented a range of technical and environmental challenges, including high water levels, difficult subgrade conditions, and delayed utility relocations—but was ultimately delivered through innovative in-house solutions, tight cost controls, and efficient site management.
Full closure of the road and self-performance of traffic management duties.
Clearing and grubbing of over 20 mature gum trees.
Installation of a combi-grid reinforced working platform over saturated subgrade.
Preloading and settlement monitoring of the abutment embankment.
Installation of Controlled Modulus Columns for ground improvement at Abutment 1.
Construction of temporary shoring using second-hand sheet piles and deadman anchors.
Construction of deep reinforced concrete foundations for bridge abutments and piers.
CFA piling works for bridge supports including pile trimming and cage placement.
Construction of retaining walls, headstocks, and pier columns.
Installation of three-span precast concrete bridge beams with a 450T crane.
Pouring of the 56m long concrete bridge deck in a single early-morning operation.
Installation of drainage scuppers and kerbs along the bridge edges.
Profiling of the existing road and placement of new pavement layers.
Installation of new steel conduit for Telstra services under the bridge.
Installation of drainage pits and Gross Pollutant Traps.
Spreading and compaction of limestone and crushed rock basecourse.
Asphalt surfacing of the new road alignment and approaches.
Installation of concrete footpaths and cyclist-compliant balustrades.
Construction of rock pitching to abutments and batter slopes.
Concrete encapsulation of sheet pile walls for permanent retention.
Final landscaping including topsoil placement, log installation and mulch spreading.
Despite a delayed start and demanding site conditions, Advanteering delivered the project ahead of schedule and under budget. The decision to self-perform critical activities, adopt practical design alternatives, and work collaboratively with stakeholders ensured a high-quality outcome that met all safety, environmental, and client expectations.
