February 2021 Total Value: $4 million ![20210401_093605](https://advanteering.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/20210401_093605.jpg?width=1920&height=865&name=20210401_093605.jpg) The A Shed project involved remedial works to ensure the heritage-listed structure at Fremantle Ports had a 50-year design life. Advanteering were tasked with installing a new sheet pile wall, repairing reinforced concrete decks, and addressing timber post and footing deterioration. Despite unique challenges such as working inside a heritage-listed shed, managing contaminated soil, and operating over water, the project was completed successfully on time and within budget. This Project Included: - Careful removal and protection of existing timber doors and elements along with the use of vibration-free hydraulic piling to avoid damaging the shed. - Use of a Giken Machine for installation of sheet piles. - Piling inside the shed with limited height, requiring piles to be installed in two halves and welded together. Vibration monitors installed to ensure compliance with limits. - Concrete deck surface repairs sealed with waterproofing and asphalt overlay. Replacement and reinforcement of timber bearers and posts. - Management of Class III contaminated soil and Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) protocols. Use of pool noodle bunds and asbestos/lead monitoring to minimize environmental impacts. - Cost-saving measures like screw pile designs and reusable formwork reduced expenses significantly. The A Shed project was a resounding success, completed on time and within budget while overcoming numerous challenges. Advanteering demonstrated excellent project management by preserving the shed’s heritage, adhering to strict environmental standards, and maintaining high-quality workmanship.
