Advanteering Civil Engineers recently completed the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Great Northern Highway and Rutland Road, a project that demanded tight scheduling, careful traffic management, and strong collaboration across the team.

This Project Included:

  • Full road closure of Great Northern Highway to enable major tie-in and pavement works.

  • Construction of a single-lane roundabout with reinforced concrete medians and SM2 kerbing.

  • Installation of new drainage infrastructure including pits, pipes, and headwalls.

  • Construction of a temporary sidetrack to maintain traffic flow during staged works.

  • Cement-stabilised sand backfill used for all drainage and service trenches.

  • Placement of over 300mm of asphalt pavement including high-modulus EME2 asphalt for increased strength.

  • Construction of new pavement layers using imported fill sand and crushed rock base.

  • Retention and reuse of existing roadbase material as subbase to achieve cost and time savings.

  • Installation of concrete islands, aprons, and access tie-ins.

  • Construction of reinforced concrete WTC slabs (wide truck crossings) for heavy vehicle durability.

  • Line marking, signage, and safety barrier installation to finalise the roundabout configuration.

  • Drainage connections and verge reinstatement to complete the works area.

  • Landscaping, topsoiling, and clean-up to restore the site to its final finish.

The roundabout was completed successfully, delivering a durable, high-quality intersection that improves safety and efficiency for all road users. Despite tight deadlines and variable site conditions, the project was completed on schedule through teamwork, adaptability, and effective coordination with stakeholders.

The result is a well-executed project that showcases Advanteering’s commitment to smart planning, quality delivery, and strong community collaboration.
